ADDICTION TREATMENT – SOME PEOPLE JUST DON’T GET IT (BUT HEALTH MINISTERS SHOULD!):

the Irish Health Minister was quoted as saying, “I have grave concern that people seem to be on methadone for an extended period of time. . . . I want to see an active methadone-reduction program.” (http://www.free-articles-zone.com/print.php?id=240473)

I agree. Methadone when used, should be done so in waning increments to not give birth to a new substance addiction. http://www.careflorida.com

If the patient is doing well on methadone and does not wish to decrease or terminate treatment how effective is this compelled withdrawal likely to be? And if it could even be achieved how long before the next relapse? What ever happened to involving the patient in his or her treatment?
